Year 6

Welcome to Year 6. Our classes are:

Ivory Coast Class - Mr. Lynch

Cameroon Class - Mrs Johnson

Spring Term 2

Spring term has been a productive term for Year 6.  They began the term by looking at what it takes for living organisms to be successful; this was done by playing the 'Hungry Games', where they investigated birds' beaks and what was needed for the birds to live and evolve over time.  This was a practical introdution to the IPC topic 'Out of Africa - Evolution and Inheritance'.  More recently, the children have learned about natural selection and adaptation and about why historians and scientists utilise fossils.

In English, the children have been reading the amazing picture book 'How to live forever'.  During this time, the children have written descriptive settings, predicted and composed their own ending to the tale and have written balanced arguments about if it is a good thing or not to be immortal.

In Maths, the children have extended and continued work on the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  They have been furthering their understanding in a variety of the following areas: perimeter, area and volume; statistic, ratio and proportions.
