Year 6

Welcome to Year 6. Our classes are:

South Africa Class - Mr. Lynch and Miss Pettman

Egypt Class - Miss. Malm

In autumn term, the children of year 6 studied a range of ancient Greek myths, moving on to William Shakespeare’s Macbeth towards the end of the calendar year. This provided them with opportunities to write for a range of different purposes and genres. In maths, autumn term concentrates on place value, the four operations and fractions, decimals and percentages. These topics offer a secure understanding of number, allowing for greater development in further topics. In IPC, we began the year by studying The Great, The Bold, The Brave. This involved understanding the history of the ancient Greeks and Romans. We looked at the chronology of different key events, the rivalry between Athens and Sparta, and the artistic designs in Greek vases. Moving forward, we will be studying Extreme Survivors. This topic centres on habitats in extreme climates. Within this, we will look at how different animals are classified and how they adapt to their ever-changing surroundings. Beyond this, we will understand how different micro-organisms survive in the most extreme locations, and how these can be both helpful and dangerous to the human body.
