Sports at Belmont

Autumn has been a busy term for sporting activities and achievements at Belmont. Here are some of the events we have participated in:

Football

Both of our Year 6 football teams, led by Mr Udoji, have taken part in matches against other schools in Bexley. Our boys’ team have played matches against Bedonwell, Upton and Barnehurst and whilst we have yet to win a match, our team have shown real sportsmanship and commitment to their place on the team. This year, we also have a Year 6 girls’ football team. They have had their first match against Barnehurst and enjoyed every moment. Their next match is again East Wickham girls on Wednesday 22nd November – we wish our team the very best of luck!

School Games Programme

This year, Belmont has entered into the National School Games Programme. The programme enables pupils to participate in competitive and non-competitive sporting events with other Bexley primary schools including hockey, golf, rugby, athletics and basketball. So far this term we have taken part in Year 6 girls Tag Rugby event lead by Dartfordians Rugby Club in Bexley. The girls had a fantastic afternoon despite the wet weather and were rewarded with bacon rolls at the end of the event.

On Tuesday 7th November 15 of our Year 5 and 6 pupils participated in a Sports Hall Athletics Competition with four other schools held at Bexleyheath Academy. They competed in track and field events including long jump and relay and did the school proud coming third overall and also achieving a first place in the girls relay and second in the boys relay – well done!

The programme continues in Spring term with the following competitions/events:

Y5/6 Basketball – 6th February Y5/6 Girls Tag Rugby – 9th February

Y5/6 Hockey – 1st March Y3/4 Hockey – 1st March KS2 Athletics – 14th March

Y5/6 Girls Tag Rugby – 23rd March

Letters will be distributed nearer to each event.

After School Sports

Letters will be sent home imminently with our spring after school club offer. We have endeavoured to extend the range of sporting activities on offer to include cricket, multi-sports and football. Our sports providers Teach School Sport, will continue to support us with the delivery of our PE curriculum, after school clubs and participation in the School Games programme.
