Autumn Term 2

It has been a fantastic term in Year 2.  The children have really immersed themselves in all things World War I.  The children learnt what the life of a solider was really like, from camaraderie to trench foot, from life in the trenches to the women and children left behind.  They wrote information texts on Edith Cavell and their own war stories based on the text 'The Little Hen and the Great War' by Jennifer Beck.

The children had a wonderful day role playing as nurses and soldiers with Elizabeth Brown, a nurse who visited us from the front line to tell us what life was really like for her and her colleagues.  The children dressed up in uniforms and really consolidated their learning.

Also this term, the children have been learning about staying healthy including what a balance diet is and the impact of exercise on the body.  They know that it is important to eat a varied diet and to exercise to keep fit.  The children made fruit kebabs and wrote their own instructions, following them to see if they were accurate.  Their favourite part was experimenting with fruits they hadn't tried before and eating their kebabs!

In Science, the children conducted an experiment to find out what the effects of sugar and fizzy drinks have on our teeth.  They immersed eggs in different fizzy drinks and are looking forward to finding out the results.
