Year 2

Welcome to Year 2. Our classes are:

Singapore Class - Mrs. Matthews

Hong Kong Class - Mrs. Lyon-Lee

Year 2 have settled well into being great role models, as they are now the eldest children in KS1. This half term year 2 have been very busy learning all about the past as part of our IPC unit ‘Time Travellers’

We have really enjoyed our book “The Great War and the Little Hen” by Jennifer Beck. It is the story of a young soldier, fighting in the trenches of wartime France when he finds a hen, skinny, scruffy, and starving. He tucks her into his jacket and takes her with him... It is a beautiful story of an unexpected friendship in the midst of war. We have written our own stories, creating characters of our own. We wrote our own non-fiction texts, in the form of fact sheets. We used the case study of Edith Cavell, who was a nurse during WW1. The woes of this heroine and her life were something that really captivated the children and inspired them to write such wonderful pieces. Our inspiration day was great fun, we explored the school looking for suitcases filled with treasures from WWI for us to question, investigate and learn about.

In maths we have been consolidating our learning from Year 1 and improving our addition and subtraction skills. We have been working practically, pictorially and using written methods to add and subtract amounts.
