Year 3

Welcome to Year 3. Our classes are:

Cuba Class - Ms. George and Mrs. Llinas

Barbados Class - Mr. McGregor

Autumn Term 1

Year Three have had a great start to this term! Back in September, (it seems a long time ago!) we had a fantastic inspiration day. We made shelters from branches and leaves, we “scavenged” for plants and berries and more that would sustain us, and we built a fire pit. We have been history detectives as we investigated primary and secondary sources of evidence, which helped in our investigation into discovering how Otzi the Iceman may have passed away.

In literacy we have written our own fables inspired by ‘The Tortoise and The Hare’ which taught us the moral “slow and steady wins the race.” Also in literacy we have read ‘The Day the Crayon’s Quit’ which inspired us to write our own formal and informal letters from the perspective of a Computer which was disgruntled with the way it was being used. All these activities enabled us to be each other’s critics, using our Author’s Chair as a focus for sharing our talents!

In maths we have made great progress in our understanding of place value and understanding that a number can be represented in hundreds, tens and ones. We have been using dienes and other resources to assist us with mastering the ‘column method’ as well as being introduced to the ‘bar model’ which has reinforced our understanding of addition and subtraction. We have also been learning and practicing our 3 times tables and are all so close to becoming rock legends in Rockstar Maths.

Let’s keep the good work up Year 3!
