Sports and PE Premium Statement: 2018/19

As part of the government's commitment to build on the legacy of London 2012 Olympics, an additional £150 million of funding was provided to primary schools to improve provision for physcial education (PE) and sport.  This funding - jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - has been allocated to primary school head teachers.  The money must be used to improve the provision of P.E. and school sport.

P.E. and school sport continue to play a very important part in the life of Belmont Primary School.  As a school we actively promote participation in sports and games and encourage pupils to make healthy lifestyle choices.  At Belmont, we have adopted the Olympic values and participation in P.E. and sports allow our pupils to work on the IPC learning goals of resilience and co-operation to support our pupils in developing these skills.

At Belmont, we have been allocated £19,580 in sport premium funding to support the development of P.E. and school sport for 2018-19.  This is being used in the following ways:

  • provide quality assured professional development opportunities for teachers through modelling and lesson study enaling quality teaching and learning for all children.
  • provide sports coaching for pupils in KS2 to develop skills in a range of sports and the ability to participate in competitive sports.
  • provide athletics teaching for all pupils.
  • prepare Year 6 pupils to access the KS3 sports curriculum
  • provide enrichment for pupils in a range of disciplines.
  • improve attendance through participation in sports based activities
  • tackle obesity and levels of activity.
  • subsidise transportation for physical activity events including school residentials
  • investment in returfing the school playing field to ensure that the space is fit for purpose
